Now that summer's here I'm ready for winter. I was super excited about some nice sunshine and warm weather for awhile, but that has long passed and I want the flakes to start flying so I can get back out there. Summer sucks. Hot sucks. I miss my beanies and boots and jackets. Shorts are impossible to find that fit well and more often that not tank tops are cut weird and I end up showing off my bra (not exactly socially acceptable, especially in SLC). Plus I think winter clothes just look so much better. Guys may argue with me ('sundresses' would likely be a major point of their argument), but the layered look is so in and I love it.
Being back in the winter mindset has made me make all sort of pacts with myself for upcoming seasons. OPT of the list is skiing the 4th of July Couloir 7/4/14; I'm going to try to fill a car and go up there. Wanna go?
Next, and definitely more exciting, is driving up to Banff, AB to ski there and possibly over at Revelstoke (because if you're up there why not?). Having been there a couple of times during the summer, it's going to be awesome to go back when everything is blanketed in snow. I am in love with the adorableness of the town (and the Fairmont Hotel is beautiful, and the hot springs are awesome) and can only imagine it has more charm when it's bundled up for the winter season. Again car-filling will be involved to keep costs down, so expect adverts for seat space in 2015-16.
The biggest and most important pact I've made with myself in regards to skiing is my resolution to get into better shape. I'm eating and eating better; there was a span in there where stress just made me chronically not hungry. It was so bad I dropped about 5 lbs. in a week. None of that. I've taken to whipping up some egg whites for an apres gym meal since it's high in protein and pretty much nothing else. Fruit intake is not really an issue now that it's summer (can you say peach season?). I've also started taking vitamins. Sort of. Okay, I've bought vitamins and am working on actually using them now. Best of all is the gym-going; I've been working on strengthening all of me so that my bad knee(s) is better next season and I'm more prepared for boot-packing and then touring once I finish equipping my set-up. It's like a complete physical revamp to make me more of a force to be reckoned with. Salt Lake Serious watch out: I'm coming for you.
So seriously, summer was cool. But I think more than a month of it is just overrated. I really want winter to return. Like, yesterday.
