The Wasatch are Bipolar

It's been almost 2 weeks since I've been on skis. I know that kind of sounds like an intro to Skiers Anonymous or some other support group, but bear with me. 2 weeks since I've been on snow actually. It's been warm here in SLC which means I've been rocking sun dresses and tank tops instead of fleece and Omni-Heat. It's an odd predicament to be in, especially since Snowbird got blessed with 12" of new snow this week.

Easter Sunday was probably the first day I was stoked for warm weather; but sitting in a hammock with a cold beer whilst wearing shorts and relishing the beginning of baseball season will do that to you. The next day it was pouring and the day after Snowbird was bluebird with a foot of powder. First of all, how bipolar are you Wasatch weather patterns? Second, this is kind of awesome. Unfortunately for me, school precludes me from dropping everything and heading up to the hill, so I'm not expecting great conditions Saturday when I go up. Gripping and ripping groomers? Probably going to be the agenda for the day. The few inches of fresh we got today might help, but it's undoubtedly going to be spring conditions.

When it really comes down to it, spring here in Utah is kind of magical. You can go ski all day, then play a few holes or go climbing in the evening, then find a nice place to sit and watch the sunset with a cold one. It's definitely taking a complete mindset adjustment, but I think I like it here. It's just going to be a complete bummer when summer gets here and I start melting again. Hot weather and I do not mix well. I guess I'll just try to keep winter in my veins and throw myself headlong into my new warm weather activities  trail-running and bouldering.
